More than 160 passengers on each flight have opted for this service, reportedly cutting connection times by approximately 45 minutes per individual.

How the IRBS Process Works: A Seamless Transition

United Airlines elaborated on the operational mechanics of the IRBS process, using the Sydney to San Francisco pilot route as an illustrative example. Upon arrival at Sydney Airport, travelers complete their standard check-in procedures, entrusting their checked luggage to an airline representative. After their international flight lands in San Francisco, passengers proceed through customs and immigration as usual. However, instead of navigating to the baggage claim area to retrieve and subsequently re-check their bags, participants in the IRBS program simply continue to security and then to their connecting flights. For these travelers, their luggage is directly transferred to the subsequent aircraft destined for their final destination, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted journey.
