A recent expedition has successfully completed the inaugural ascent of a previously unclimbed 6,232-meter peak within the rugged Ghujerab Mountains of the Karakoram. The team, comprising Marco Schwidergall, Tomasz Rodzynkiewicz, and Matej Prcin, tentatively christened the summit Tumladen Sar, awaiting official local confirmation. Their challenging M5 route stretched 1,800 meters, featuring formidable ice sections with inclines reaching 85 degrees, marking a significant achievement in high-altitude climbing.

This pioneering journey commenced on September 21, with the trio establishing two bivouacs on the mountain face. They triumphantly reached the summit on September 23 at 2:30 pm. The descent proved equally demanding, involving ten rappels down the south side and intricate navigation across a glacier, safely bringing them back to Base Camp by September 24. The ascent presented varied conditions, from a couloir of steep, high-quality ice on the first day, reminiscent of classic Alpine climbs, to relentless stretches of 80-degree ice and challenging mixed pitches on subsequent days. During their acclimatization phase, the same group also conquered a nearby 6,031-meter peak, ascending a route with rocky sections and ice pitches up to 50 degrees.

The Ghujerab Mountains, located along the Pakistan-China border within the broader Karakoram range, are renowned for their extreme remoteness and logistical hurdles, rendering them largely unexplored by mountaineers.
