Curaçao Continues Strong Summer Tourism Performance
2025-09-14

Curaçao has demonstrated impressive resilience in its tourism sector, sustaining a notable upward trend in visitor numbers throughout the summer. August statistics reveal a 4% increase in stayover arrivals year-over-year, culminating in over 60,000 visitors. This growth underscores the island's enduring appeal as a year-round destination within the Dutch Caribbean, particularly highlighting a robust summer season driven by strong performances from key markets. The consistent influx of tourists points to effective strategies in promoting the island's diverse attractions and welcoming atmosphere.

In August, the Americas emerged as a primary driver of Curaçao's tourism success. South America recorded an impressive 17% jump in arrivals, while North America saw a 7% increase. This strong performance from the American continents helped offset slight declines from Europe and the Caribbean, which experienced pullbacks of 5% and 7% respectively. Despite these minor dips, Europe maintained its position as Curaçao's largest source region, contributing 23,511 visitors, closely followed by North America with 17,061. This diverse source market demonstrates the island's broad appeal.

Visitors to Curaçao in August enjoyed extended stays, averaging 8.2 nights on the island. The Netherlands, a historically strong market, continued to send the largest single contingent of travelers, with 19,573 visitors. Although this represented a 7% decrease from the previous year, Dutch tourists remained the most committed, with an average stay of nearly 12 nights. This indicates a deep appreciation for the island's offerings among this demographic, leading to longer, more immersive experiences.

The United States market also showcased a steady upward trajectory, with 15,773 visitors in August, marking a 7% year-over-year increase. American travelers predominantly opted for resort hotels, with seven out of ten choosing this accommodation type. This preference highlights the demand for comprehensive amenities and services that resort properties offer, contributing significantly to the island's hospitality sector. Colombia, among the top three markets, demonstrated the fastest growth, surging by 17% to reach 4,991 visitors, further diversifying Curaçao's international visitor base.

Cumulatively, Curaçao has welcomed more than 1.1 million visitors so far this year. This total includes over half a million stayover arrivals and nearly 560,000 cruise passengers, collectively representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The August figures alone were particularly striking, with overall arrivals up 23% compared to the previous year. These impressive statistics are a clear indicator of Curaçao's burgeoning popularity and its expanding reach across various global markets, solidifying its status as a premier Caribbean destination.

The August tourism figures for Curaçao reflect a period of sustained growth and robust performance. With significant increases in arrivals from the Americas and consistent popularity among European visitors, the island is successfully expanding its market reach. The preference for longer stays and resort accommodations further highlights the quality of the visitor experience, cementing Curaçao's position as a vibrant and attractive travel destination in the Caribbean.
