The Dalmore, a renowned distillery in the Scottish Highlands, has introduced its eagerly awaited 2024 Vintage Collection. This exclusive release features two limited-edition whiskies: The Dalmore Vintage 2009 and The Dalmore Vintage 2006. These masterpieces celebrate over five decades of craftsmanship and expertise in whisky making. Founded in 1839, The Dalmore has been crafting exceptional spirits for more than 180 years, embodying sophistication and heritage. Each November, the team carefully selects casks that best represent the distillery's quality and style, defining the unique characteristics of the Vintage Collection. For 2024, the collection offers rich dessert-like flavor profiles, inviting connoisseurs to savor these exquisite single malts.
The Dalmore Vintage 2009, a 15-year-old masterpiece, presents an intriguing blend of flavors. It opens with aromas reminiscent of dark plums, cracked black pepper, and a touch of Manuka honey. On the palate, it delivers Morello cherries, candied Seville oranges, and fresh figs, complemented by light cocoa notes. The finish is indulgent, featuring ginger cake, roasted chestnuts, and soft wood spices. This whisky undergoes initial maturation in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in 30-year-old Matusalem Sherry casks and 10-year-old Tawny Port pipes. According to Gregg Glass, The Dalmore’s Master Whisky Maker, this process enhances the sweet malt, soft fruit, and citrus flavors with influences of vanilla, caramel, and gingerbread, creating a rich and decadent experience.
The Dalmore Vintage 2006, an 18-year-old robust single malt, showcases a symphony of flavors. It begins with aromas of Sherry-soaked raisins, roasted figs, and cedar wood. The palate reveals dark fruits, liquorice, and cacao, evolving into bergamot and blood orange notes, culminating in a rich berry and dark chocolate finish. This whisky matures in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels before being enhanced in rare, aged Matusalem and Amoroso Sherry casks. Gregg Glass elaborates on how the interplay between first-fill Bourbon barrels and exclusive Sherry casks results in layers of deep vanilla, caramel, honey, and antique oak flavors, intertwined with dark chocolate, berries, and wood spices. This complexity makes it an ideal pairing for Spanish tapas, cheeseboards, or dark chocolate truffles.
Both expressions are non-chill-filtered, natural in color, and presented at specially selected strengths. The elegant packaging, adorned with powder-blue tones and silver accents, reflects the autumnal ambiance at the distillery during selection season. Each bottle features the iconic 12-point Royal Stag emblem, symbolizing The Dalmore’s royal heritage. Available through select specialist retailers, these limited-edition whiskies promise to become cherished additions to any whisky enthusiast's collection, encapsulating the essence of tradition and innovation.
