Midleton Distillery Celebrates Bicentenary with Exclusive Whiskey Release
2025-04-16

In honor of its 200th anniversary, Midleton Distillery has introduced the Midleton Very Rare 2025 vintage, a limited-edition whiskey that epitomizes the artistry of Irish distillation. This exceptional blend combines six unique distillate styles spanning four decades, showcasing the legacy of craftsmanship passed down through generations. Under the guidance of Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman, this masterpiece highlights both the heritage and innovation of Midleton Distillery, presented in an eco-friendly package adorned with intricate illustrations.

The creation of the Midleton Very Rare 2025 began with the meticulous selection of rare single pot still and single grain whiskeys from A2 Warehouse, a historic stone structure dating back to the 1860s. Here, only the finest spirits are aged to perfection. For the first time in the collection's history, six distinct distillate styles were chosen, each representing a different era of artisans who have contributed to Midleton Very Rare's renowned profile. Among these, two exceptionally rare grain whiskey expressions, aged for 21 and 22 years, bring a distinctive sweetness and rich butterscotch notes to the blend. These are complemented by pot still contributions, matured in first-fill barrels, which add depth and complexity with deep spice and stone fruit nuances.

The harmonious blend of these elements pushes the boundaries of traditional Irish whiskey, offering a subtle yet significant twist on the classic Midleton Very Rare character. The result is a whiskey that not only celebrates the past but also looks toward the future, blending tradition with innovation. The presentation of this vintage is as carefully considered as its composition, housed in a fully recyclable gift box and featuring an elegant bottle adorned with an intricate illustration of the distillery and its iconic pot stills, alongside a commemorative stamp marking the bicentenary milestone.

Tasting notes reveal a captivating bouquet of caramelized apple, toffee fudge, and vanilla, layered with subtle herbal undertones of mint and lavender. On the palate, textured flavors of honeycomb, soft fruits, and delicate herbs emerge, balanced by white pepper and a mild hint of chili oil. The finish is rich and lingering, with oak and pot still spices making their final statement as the fruity notes gently fade. At 40% ABV, the whiskey offers a refined balance of tradition and innovation, paying homage to the craftsmanship that defines Midleton Very Rare.

Available in select markets worldwide, including Ireland, the USA, Great Britain, Australia, and global travel retail, the Midleton Very Rare 2025 vintage is priced at €240, $350, or £220. This release is more than just a commemorative item; it is a bold declaration of the future of Irish whiskey, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. As Kevin O’Gorman reflects, this whiskey embodies the mastery, innovation, and dedication that have become synonymous with Midleton Very Rare over two centuries of distilling history.
